Weathered gray deck boards before staining — Myrtle Beach deck restoration
Why Stain & Seal

Coastal Weather Eats Bare Wood.

Sun, salt air, and Grand Strand humidity strip the life out of unprotected decking. Boards gray out, grain splinters, and mildew moves in below the surface where a wash alone can’t reach.

A professional stain and seal locks pigment and water repellent into the grain — keeping the rich color you paid for and pushing back the next restoration by years, not months.

  • UV protection

Pigmented stain blocks the sun-bleach that turns boards gray.

  • Water repellency

Sealed boards shed rain instead of soaking it up and swelling.

  • Mildew resistance

Sealer starves the algae and mildew that feed on damp wood.

Our Process

Wash. Dry.
Stain. Seal.

Stain over dirty or damp wood and it peels within a season. We do it in the right order, with the right dry time — every time.

1 · Soft Wash

Low-pressure wash with wood-safe detergents lifts gray fibers, mildew, and old residue without furring the grain.

2 · Full Dry

Wood needs to drop below 15% moisture before any coating. We schedule the stain visit around the weather, not our calendar.

3 · Stain

Premium penetrating stain, back-brushed by hand into every board, rail, and spindle for even color with no lap marks.

4 · Seal

A water-repellent seal coat locks everything in against rain, salt air, and pool splash for seasons of protection.

Common Questions

Deck Staining Q&A.

Typically 2–4 dry days, depending on humidity and sun exposure. We check moisture content before opening a single can — staining damp wood is the number-one cause of peeling.
Semi-transparent is the Grand Strand sweet spot: it shows the grain while carrying enough pigment to block UV graying. Solid hides older, patched decks better; clear sealers look great but need re-coating more often. We bring samples to the estimate.
On the coast, expect 2–3 years on horizontal boards and 4+ on rails and verticals. An annual gentle rinse (included in our maintenance plans) stretches that noticeably.
New pressure-treated lumber needs to season before it will accept stain — usually 1–3 months. We can test absorption with a water-drop check and tell you exactly when it’s ready.
